PREVIOUS JOURNAL ENTRY...
15/07/07: Well, last time I said I was going to do a short update and ended up rambling on for several pages, but this time I'm going to try and cut it short. I've just been cooking some flapjacks and tarts for my parents, based on recipes I found on the Internet*.
Still no job, unsurprisingly. According to more than one member of the extended family, there are no jobs for students in Hampshire. I did apply to work on the local farm (putting those As at A-Level to good use), but was told that because I am male, I would have to work in the fields rather than the shop (weak constitution and hay-fever notwithstanding). It would have been six days a week, from 9.00am until either 5.00pm or 7.00pm depending on when they finished. This, apparently, is the future for University graduates. And people wonder why suicide rates soar from 18-20 - "quarter-life crisis" my rear end.
In other news, "Reality And Reason - The Failure Of The Internal Divine", my upcoming rant, is ticking along nicely, with close to 1,000 words done. Nothing new on the Settings front, but I've added more of my absurdly huge backlog to my big fisking project --RefutedYouBleeps-- as well as updating my --Downloads-- page. --UploadingIt-- recently (and sneakily) changed all their links - you can still link directly, but all old links will direct you through an adverts page first. Getting around this took me about five seconds with the extremely handy --TurboSR-- (Search and Replace), which goes through any number of text-based files (including .html) and replaces the target text with the input text. I've also recently come into possession of (ahem) some more 40K downloads, including the Chaos Space Marines codex, Tau Empire, Daemonhunters, the Imperial Armour books, two original Rogue Trader books, and Assassins, as well as the Lord Of The Rings rulebooks. Look for them to appear on the Downloads page semi-soon. For now, pick them up where I got them from - --here-- (at least until the (C)rapidshare links expire).
I've also been playing a lot of --Team Fortress Classic-- , which is, much like my previous team-based pastime, --Sven Co-op-- , a hyper-balanced team game - with the difference that your team is pitted against other humans instead of armies of computer-controlled monsters. And it's great fun, until your Romanian pointman becomes convinced everyone on his team is actually an enemy Spy and starts shooting you. With team damage on. And no-one can tell him to stop, because he can't speak English. Frustrating. But I like it, not least because it's one of the few multi-player games where overt, mindless aggression is punished and everyone has to play their role in the team, even if it isn't "frontline uber-commando". The Scout, Spy or Engineer, for example, can go through an entire game without actually killing a single member of the opposing team themselves and still be a great player, because their role is to ignore the enemy and dash past towards the objective, deceive them by adopting their colours, or setting up security guns and teleporters to assist your team's defence and offense, respectively.
Anyway, better get going. Signing off, keep the faith, don't forget to throw out Rosemary's baby with the bathwater, etc.
* --Here-- and --here-- , culinary fans! Regular readers will remember my previous attempts at gourmet cuisine - hopefully these will turn out better. They're in the oven now, so wish me luck.
