ZORIAN SAGA -
"Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god: for he shall magnify himself above all."
"Do you see? Elliot was wrong after all. THIS is the way the world ends..."
---
Up there, where a trillion realities register as little more than a bubble in the quantum foam, there is a War on for the souls of every being who has ever lived or will live. The Aggressor is the Zorian Order, and they cannot be stopped: all those who resist them are undone. This is the story of those doomed resistors...
Zorian Saga is an animated sci-fi/fantasy setting drawing on elements of "The Matrix", "Sliders", "Dark City", Grant Morrison's "The Invisibles" and "Star Wars". It is epic in scope, leading its protagonists through not only alternate realities but also the past, future, other worlds and higher dimensions. The series tells a single story from beginning to end, moving between over a dozen protagonists - not all of whom are on the same side. Zorian Saga's genre shifts with its cast - at times action; at others horror, romance, parable, or dark comedy. Stylistically, it draws on a wide range of inspirational sources - from the superhero comic to the Victorian gothic novel to cyberpunk. At the heart of Zorian Saga is a core of hard science fiction ideas, which inform the plot and the stylistic choices made.
As an animated series, Zorian Saga will comprise twelve plot arcs, segueing between protagonists and settings as they intersect. Zorian Saga is more or less unique in the world of fiction in that numerous times during the series, we see the current protagonists meeting a hitherto unknown character: the audience - that is to say, the camera - then STAYS with this new character as the protagonists we have been following thus far walk away. Our previous protagonists may continue their quest away from our prying eyes; or we may return to them later, mere moments (in their time) after we left them.
Zorian Saga is very much a 'thinking man's' series - full of metaphor and social commentary for those who know where to look for it. But it is also a straightforward drama which can be enjoyed by people of all ages and backgrounds - the series makes use of my original 'Content Code': a set of self-censorship guidelines designed to appeal to as wide an audience as possible whilst still employing adult, and at times very dark, themes. The choice of medium for Zorian Saga - traditional animation in the style of the Western comic book, with some elements of anime influence - is calculated to appeal to a growing and enthusiastic base of intelligent viewers whilst simultaneously supporting the intense special effects and grand theatre that form such an integral part of the series.
STATUS: As of (24/12/08), I have outlines for the first few plot arcs, in-depth character profiles and analyses, and a boatload of design/concept sketches.

Updated semi-never.
JOHN DONALD ISHMAEL DRAPER

The protagonist of Zorian Saga, John Draper is, at least at first, the Everyman through whom characters explain the world of Zorian Saga to the audience. Coming from a dimension where the War and even the existence of other dimensions is unknown (i.e., our dimension) he is thrown into the story when his world is invaded by the forces of the Ordo.
